Hey guys, as I've been talking about over the past few days, I've had a bubble tip anemone for about the past month and it had been doing very well, always inflated fully, eating well, and generally looking very healthy.

The past couple of days (4-5) however, it seems to be doing worse. For the past 3 days or so he moved to a crevice under the rock and has been inflating "just enough" to wear his tentacles did not look deflated but he was not appearing healthy to me either. Last night he began to move himself back out from the crevice and back to the top where he had been doing well and I breathed a sigh of relief, but this morning I have awoken to this...

Does this look like a normal bowel to you or should I start contemplating removing him from the tank? It just doesn't make sense to me why he is not doing well... the tank is a year old and here are the water parameters...

lighting is 6 x 24 Watt T5HO 10000k half actinic half white

Tank Parameters

pH: 8.2
Salinity: 1.025
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 5-10 ppm
temp: 78 degrees Fahrenheit

I really just need opinions on if this one is a goner or not... I'd hate to lose it after it being so pretty in the tank.

Another question... would it be wise to put my maroon in a breeders net so it'll stop rubbing in it?

It doesn't look good. I wouldn't call him a goner for sure yet, but I would be watching very closely.

I would put the maroon in a breeders net, the anemone is obviously stressed and keeping it from being bothered may help here.

I hate to say it, but I removed him... I can't risk him dying while I go work a 12 hour shift with no one around to watch him. Better a 40 dollar BTA then 250+ dollars of coral and fish... will just have to try again eventually...

Really disheartening

I totally understand. Things can turn ugly quickly in your tank if they start melting.

you could have set up a quarantine tank while you waited it out, but overall better safe than sorry.

What are were you feeding it and how often? Was there any sudden changes of water flo? When I upgraded the flo my BTA and LTA started acting funky and curled up in balls to move around, they repostioned themselves and started acting normally. I've only seen my BTA's mouth wide open once - threw a silverside chuck in their and never again. Also my 2 live in caves, alot of times during fish feedings or right after they will curl up and retreat in the cave - my take, they too much solid food in the water for their liking.
