I just set up this tank last weekend. The setup seems to be running smoothly. It's a 55 gallon wet/dry sump with two 2" PVC pumps feeding from a gl*******z overflow box. The top elbow has a hole drilled in it with a piece of plastic tubing stuck in it. The problem I'm having is I am getting large amount of bubbles in my sump. (See picture)
All of this air fills my mechanical media causing it to float. I originally had that entire area which measures 12" x 12" stuffed with filter floss (pillow stuffing material). However, with the bubbles it would float up and overflow into the next chamber of my sump. Now I just have blue filter floss pads and I'm still having trouble keeping them from floating.
So finally, the questions: Are the bubbles normal? If not, how can I lessen or eliminate them? But if they are normal, what can I use for mechanical media?
Thanks!
