ok so now ive got everything running great, now i get another annoyance, bubbles, i tried everything and cant stop it, its coming from the return piping to the tank, i tried to put a sponge in front of it, nothing, ive even tried a sock at the end of the return pipe, nothing, any ideas

btw i will be getting pics very soon for everyone, please be patient

thanks in advance again, you guys are awesome

oh one more thing, the pump has an annoying whine to it, kinda like a supercharger in a car, its done this ever since i bought it new, is this normal since its a high output elctric drive pump? any ideas to quiet it down a little or do i just learn to live with it?

All your connections are 100% tight? Sounds like you might be sucking air somewhere.

thats more than likly the problem im guessing, but how can i check it theres a dozen feet of piping, should i just reseal everything with pvc cement?

You could do that. Make sure your pump isn't cavitating too or sucking air.

well now 99.9% of the bubbles are gone there are very minimal bubbles, now they are super tiny, barly noticable, i can live with them..

all i did was add 3 baffles to the sump, one to let water go over then under then over then out to the tank, by the time they get tot he tank the water is slowed a little and virtually all bubbles dissapate. why didnt i do this along time ago??:screwy:

i never heard the word cavitate, but i searched it on dictionary.com and got this....
  1. <LI minmax_bound="true">The sudden formation and collapse of low-pressure bubbles in liquids by means of mechanical forces, such as those resulting from rotation of a marine propeller.
  2. The pitting of a solid surface.
im guessing i cant stop this?

you are probably suckinng in bubbles from the sump my lfs had the same porblem the skimmer water flow kept causing bubbles to be sucked into the pump

i have no clue where theyd be coming from but you cant hardly tell there are any unless you pay real close attention, its doing good so far, except for no reason, a little bit ago while trying to solve this problem, my metal hilides dimmed, i smelled smoke looked at the light and there was smoke coming from the ballast to the bulbs, so i dunno what happened there good thing i was home when it happened, maybe they are just old, this keeps up im gonna have to take out another loan just for the tank lol, what would life be without a great hobby tho:headbang2

From bubbles to a metal halide ballast? Sorry to hear that man.

everything thats can go wrong seems to go wrong for you hope you find out the problem
