So in the 240 I want to do black sand without breaking the bank. I heard the black diamond sand blasting sand is a no go. Anyone know of a place to buy fish safe black sand at a good price.
Curious why or where you've heard black diamond is no good? I've had it in many tanks with zero ill effects. Doesn't effect barbels of my bottom feeders, grows plants fine, looks great and does not effect water quality. At less than $10 for 50#s it cannot be beaten. So in the 240 I want to do black sand without breaking the bank. I heard the black diamond sand blasting sand is a no go. I believe it's coal slag not metal. If that's good or bad Idk I'm assuming much fear is based off comparisons to carbon, which can become a nitrate leecher. I don't think it's any sharper than Tahitian moon black sand.Shot blasting sand is often crushed slag from metal smelters, and can be incredibly sharp, may not good for loaches, or other bottom dwelling fish
Yeah if you have one! Another option may be black hornblende most mining operations have no problem with you taking this if you ask but it may be sharp. I'm not sure. The beach is the best place to get cheap sand from.
