Buettikoferi

Finally got a shot of my 9" Palmas buettikoferi. He normally hides unless feeding. I do like him though and the markings are great

I do find them finnicky feeders compared to my other bichirs-I don't see him for days sometimes

So buettikoferi is not as active as polli palmas? BTW, very nice looking bichir. Is it common for buettikoferi to have darker patterns than polli palmas? I'm still learning how to differentiate palmas bichirs.

that really depends on the individuals. his has some of the darker patterns i've seen. juvy palmas polli typically has quite contrasting checkerboard like markings at the rear half, but tend to become muted as it grows. i have to say in general that buettikoferi tends to have more elaborate patterning than palmas polli
