i just bought a used big acrylic tank, its actually in really good condition as far as scratches go but there is some (not deep) scratches that i want to get out before i fill the tank up. is there any tricks to filling in tiny scratches without having to sand the entire tank down 4 times and re finishing it??

You can try Novus products. Start with #3 and work your way to #1. You will need to use a buffer for best results. I used Meguars sanding blocks on my tank, 1000 and 2000 grit. If the Novus does not get everything out you can always do a few of the tougher spots with sanding blocks. By the way, my tank turned out great. A lot of work but well worth it. I would not do the buffing by hand.

thats the thing is these scratches arent deep enought for me to want to try to sand it all down. way too much work for the tiny scratches that probably wont show once its filled with water?? i was wondering if there is some "wax on wax off" method for tiny scratches? my buddy suggested something that was named blue magic or something. he got it from an auto body shop and said it worked great for the small stuff

Try buffing first. If it's not good enough, then you may have to do some sanding.

My latest discovery is that a foam buffing pad beats the crap out of the wool ones. Made a huge difference for me.

get the novus compounds 3,2,1. then get a drill and put a buffing pad you would use to wax a car with.....one of the round balls used for cars..kinda foamy. works great!

I would buy a buffer, I picked up a cheap 6" model from Harbor Freight for about $15. Start with Novus 3, follow the instructions and buff like you would a car. Use the buffer for #2, I applied #1 by hand.

Has anyone ever tried and plastic buffer compounds you can get at auto part stores? I went down and got "plastx"from checkers and it's working great for the outside of the tank, I think it would be safe on the inside of the tank as long as I wipe it off real well with a wet rag, someone please correct me if I'm wrong so I don't kill all my fish
