What do you really have to do when you buff out acrylic to get the scratches out, like what tools do you need or is it chemicals. Can any one tell me what it is that you have to do Thanks

I agree with polish,
NOVUS system and a 5" electric buffer with a cotton bonnet...
deep deep scratches, the kind you can feel if you run your fingernail across them, may need some wet sanding with 1200 grit, then 1500 grit, then 2500 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper first. Then follow up with the NOVUS system, part 1,2 & 3... ;)

I'd say part 3,2, and 1, but otherwise, yeah... this is exactly what I did on a tank that was so deeply scratched that I couldn't see through parts of it. I actually used several different grits of sandpaper on the entire thing (took forever) before going to work with the orbital buffer and the #3.

I skipped the #1 though because when filled it looked crystal clear. After I set up the tank I realized that in certain external light conditions (or the flash from my camera) there's still a hazy glare though so I really wish I had gone the extra step.

I got giant bottles of the Novus polish from a tanning supply center. It was ridiculously cheap, like 8oz for $3.

LOL

I went 180, 220, 400, 600, 1000, 2000 grit all wet sandpaper.

then buffed with orbital buffer with novus 3 then 2.

tank looks brand new,. took about a week to get done on 100 gallon.

novus 1,2,3 and some new tshirts

Orbitals are great for polishing the final polish...but a buffer/grinder is the only way to go on cutting the scratches...180 is very coarse, did you have DEEP scratches?

yea I had a ton. Which goes to show that no matter how deep a scratch is on an acrylic tank it can be made brand new again
