So, I'm the proud owner of a silver arowana that I rescued from my LFS, and he's got an injury from about a year or two ago: He's missing an eye. I've noticed recently that he leans towards the side with the working eye. Is he doing this to compensate, or is there something wrong with him? I only feed him floating food so he won't stare at the aquarium floor, but I'm worried. Am I being stupid, or is there something wrong with him? As a side note, the water has <10 ppm chlorine, ammonia, nitrates, etc.

Need more accurate levels on your water params.

I saw an eyeless silver arowana once at a LFS, just a black dot where it's eye was. It swam in a funny way almost like how birds cock their heads side to side. Never did find out if anyone bought it.

Also looking at the tanks bottom isn't a really a reason for DE, since arowanas look down regardless of food or not. It's more along the lines of genetics. Kinda like how some of us get diabetes easier than others.

When you said everything was under 10 ppm, did you mean that everything was 0 ppm and that nitrates were under 10?

It was a "bug" when discussing buying this from the LFS. Now that he's in your tank, it's a "feature" :)

Check if there is some Chinese god with just one eye. Then you can claim it's good Feng Shui. :D

On a Serious Note:

I see my fish (incl the Aro) sometime swim in a slightly tilted position in the early morning when the Tank light is off and the only light in the tank is sunlight coming in through the window.

They probably try to align their swimming position parallel to the light coming in.) This goes away when the Tank light is switched on.

Is the light in your tank ON when the Aro is swimming in that tilted position? (Also, like others said, more detailed water parameters will help)

Good luck,
Sid

"I saw an eyeless silver arowana once at a LFS, just a black dot where it's eye was. It swam in a funny way almost like how birds cock their heads side to side. Never did find out if anyone bought it." <<< This wouldn't happen to be in North Carolina, would it?

"When you said everything was under 10 ppm, did you mean that everything was 0 ppm and that nitrates were under 10?" <<< Yes. No ammonia, no chlorine, ph 6.9, <10ppm nitrates.

"Is the light in your tank ON when the Aro is swimming in that tilted position?" <<< Now that you mention it, when the tank lights are on, he's only slightly tilted, but at night when my Moon LEDs come on, he's more angled.

i like the title - i hear these terms everyday and i'm sure your're in the same field in order to come up with such one! lol

if your water change and feeding schedules have been constant, then i woudn't worry. else, check for water parameters (raw numbers rather than rounded would help in this case) as well as look for any changes to the fishes' living conditions and try to correct them. i'd recommend doing the latter just to be on the safe side. hope it's just the way the fish swim. how bad of a slant anyway, is it about 15-30 degree angle off? any pictures/videos would help greatly for others to help. good luck.

looks like the lighting is the cause...

btw, i didn't see your post before i made my last one.
