I am planning to build a stand for my fish tank. With money being so tight at the moment I am going to use some pallet wood that we have at work, this wood is ruff sawn but with a lot of elbow grease and a belt sander it should come up nice. My boss also has some 4"x4"x12' peices of oragan that he has had sitting around for ages that I can use for my main structural frame. I will post more photos as I progress. DSCF1877.JPG

If you are going to use rough wood try to borrow a planer from a friend, of rent one. You are looking at a ton of elbow grease and possibly a fortune in torn sandpaper. A planer will make short work of it. Love the reclaimed wood look.

Thanks john73738 the planer is a much better idea, I had a talk with a builder mate and he agreed with that advice. I'm hoping to get started soon as possible:( I have had alot of family commitments lately.

Good luck with your build, I've used cinder blocks to make cheap stands but they are quite ugly

Ah, the old University look. I had my stereo and text books on that very same stand/bookshelves. It's good to remember.
If you can't get a power planner you can always use a hand plane, "bindardonedat".
