Hi, need some help to construct a mechanical filter, must be completly silent, be able to swallow 1600L/H and easy to clean.
I have some ideas but nothing solid at the moment.

How good does nylon pantyhoses work as mechanical filter or prefilter?
I know micron is a measurent of size but have absolutly no idea what is big and small so wonder how 20 50 100 and 200 works in an aquarium?
Can put a container of some kind on the aquarium and still have complete access to the interior, but is it possible to get the water back in the aquarium without any noise?
Could a pipe be filled with coarse sponge to dampen any sound made by water?
Any difference if the pipe is at 45 or 90 degree angle?
Been looking alittle at a poolfilter cartridgde a friend of mine have, large surface area so could run for a while without clogging up but would they work?

I have 3 ideas that could possibly work and need some input on it, how they work, what could be improved and so on.

Take a bucket and drill a 38mm hole in the bottom and put a pipe that goes back down to the aquarium.
The bottom of the bucket will have some kind of standoff 2-3cm high so water can flow unrestricted to the outlet.
The bucket will be filled with filterwool and a prefilter used.

Take a balcony flowerpot, intake at one end with a prefilter.
The other end will have a hole either at the bottom or one of the sides to lead water back down to the aquarium.
The flowerpot will be filled with filterwool, a barrier will be placed at the end to prevent filterwool to flow out in the aquarium.

The third idea revolves around a poolfilter cartridge, take a bucket and make a hole in the bottom and mount a piece of pipe sticking up 4-5cm.
The cartridge is then mounted on the pipe and fastened so it cannot move around.
Water will come up from the aquarium, through a U-bend and down to the bottom of the bucket and released through a T-connector.
Water will then flow though the poolfilter cartridge and into the pipe in the middle of the cartridge and down into the aquarium.

Regards.
