Hello Everyone,
Im new to this site and i was just seeing if anyone had some suggestions. I am currently starting and getting ideas on a 1700 gallon saltwater pool and 300 gallon sump. the pool will be 12 feet long, 7 or so feet wide and 4 feet tall. Please give me some ideas on how to build this and filtration and all that. Im wanting to do sharks and rays. Currently i have 3 sharks, HORN, Banded Cat, And Epulette. Also i have a Bat Ray that is eating good and happy as every but need bigger home for him. Any suggestion are welcomed. Thanks!!

Good project.

What kind of budget and skill levels do you have?

Are you wanting to do all DIY?

And do you have any preconceived ideas or plans? (ie does it have to be pretty?)

then we would like it to be pretty so we can drool over pics ;)

Why don't you construct it out of plywood, with two by six's for the frame, and then some luan ply for the outer shell? You could finish it off to look just like a piece of cabinetry, it would be cheaper and prettier than steel, and the fiberglass would stick to the wood alot better than it would to steel. Fiberglass just doesn't stick to steel well at all. Also, it would be alot easier to construct, and dismantle if that time ever came around, and probably weigh a little less too. Where are you going to put this monster? What about filtration? Is it going to be raised, or sit flush on a concrete floor? How are you going to cope with evaporation? I've got some good ideas for this project of yours, as I was thinking of doing the same thing.

also, with sharks and ray's, you need to minimize metal, as they can be very receptive to electromagnetic fields. An all steel tank could potentially lead to some serious problems.

I actually bought a poly cattle tank that is 9 feet round and 2 and a half feet tall. What do you guys think. Im going to use my 300 gallon Rubbermaid for filtration full of live rock and skimmers. What do you guys think? I have a bat ray right now in the 300 and 3 sharks. I was thinking about the the rectangle idea building a wood one but the sharks and rays would run into the corners.
