ok i have a problem / question i am in the process of building a house ... the house has a huge basement (raised celing ) i want to build a 4-5 thousand gallon aquarium my idea is a 11ftx11ftx5ft high out of cement block and pond armor it with one viewing window i found a 4x8 sheet of 1inch acrlic for a cheap price a local glass shop ordered it in for a quy who neve picked it up ok now the questions

1 is 1inch acrlic thick enough to hold 5000 gallons in

2 i want to build a " hood " over the aquarium and vent the tank outside do i need to do this to keep my basement from mildew

3i am gonna build my own filtratin . plus i am gonna hook a swimingpool filter to it and keep it running so i can use the pool cleaning attachments so i can sweep the bottom is this ok or is there a better way to clean the bottom

i have a sketch of everything i'm doing i'll try to upload it tomarrow thanks for the help

if you really want this have it poured when they do the walls.

1) 1" is not thick at all when looking at over all weight, but if you put a cross brace or 2 down the middle, it will help.....

2) Venting will help a lot, just keep air temp in mind as well.

3)Depends on how you go about doing it. I would use good flow across the bottom and just run suction lines for sand filter inlets. For water return, I'd run one into a bio tower set up, and one right into the tank.... with valves to control flow to each.
Aquatic Eco has some great package deals on pumps with sandfilters for pools of this size. Look into those.
