so here is my idea ... i have a big cichlid tank, and so i have a decent amount of fry at any given time ...
so i see this posting on a local site for sale

http://www.forum.columbusfishclub.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2992

and my thinking was "that'd be pretty cool" and then "i could build that!"
except i can't haha!

so basically i think it would be cool to do a 4 or 6 ft long tank, only about 6" wide, and a foot tall (maybe not even that high)
just to kind of have a cool display for baby fish

#1) is that a dumb idea?
#2) how would you build it?

my first thought was acrylic like his, but i dont know how to bond it, or make it look nice.
so then i thought maybe make it a U shape out of wood, cover it in some sort of sealant so it holds water, and then glue glass or acrylic to the open side, then turn it sideways so the glass makes a "front window"
then cut a hole in the "top" peice of wood for a light and gas exchange

and then i thought maybe i could make it out of some sort of plastic ??

i can do the work, i just dont know what the best way to do it would be, so i figured i would try and get some advice on here

It would be pretty cool, if you know how to cut glass then your golden. Glass is easier to seal and probably cheaper for that small of a tank.

also the lid on that long tank being so thin will warp like crazy. better to go glass for something like that. even look on aquabid, so guys sell betta tanks. and I did see some bigger ones that would fit into a 30 long.. for fry you really don't need anything more. unless you growing them out to a 1.5 inches..

Spring 2009, I'll be doing something similar - gotta clear some of the honey-do list first.

The way I'm going to do it is using ¾" AC Plywood, Glass and Drylok. Tank dimensions will be 4' long x 10" wide x 12" high.

There are some examples on YouTube on how to bond acrylic btw.
