Lot's of research, then get some small pieces to practice on.
Do you have the well ventiated space to dedicate to the project, once you start you don't want to have to move things. The floor is the best place to work.
Then locate a supplier (with best price/with help you the most/that can cut the material precisely) in driving range to cut out shipping, a nice road trip adds to the experience.
