Hey people,

I'm trying to get some information together regarding building a fish room/fish house. Nothing huge maybe just 8ft by 6ft in total.

I have some experience in building similar structures garden sheds/pigeon lofts/conservatories etc. So I'm ok with regards to constructing the actual building.

I know it obviously needs to be waterproof/weatherproof. I know I need to insulate it well on all walls and ceilings.

But with regards to air circulation, keeping moisture levels right and generally heating the room I have no idea where to start.

Ideally I'd like to heat the room rather then the individual tanks.

Do I need a chimney on the roof to let air escape? I know I don't want too much air escaping so perhaps need some sort of open/closing vent?

If anyone can give me some pointers regarding heating/ventilation and anything else that is important that I might have overlooked can you enlighten me?

I've searched for old posts related to this and have had no joy, any links or similar from projects maybe you've done in the past would be much appreciated.

I'm on a tight budget so will prefer things that take more time/effort to do/make but cost less.

Thanks.

i have asked these questions many times my room is in my basement.
i have a space heater and a75 qt dehumidifier witch should be sufficient for me.
i don't know for sure if it would be 100% sufficient for you but they make exhaust fans for attics with a thermostat for under $100 i would think this would help for high humidity levels.

Hi John, how big is the area your using?

I did a little googling as I think the design considerations are interesting but won't be doing this any time soon... I saw the window mounted air conditioners mentioned for climate control... that may be something to consider (for summer and general circulation conditioning, maybe not for cooling).

hey Peter
the room is 200 sq i am running 2 300gal ponds and a 110 gal
if things go well in the spring i will also have a 480gal acrylic tank.
the biggest thing said over and over is to cover your tanks or ponds and there wont be a big humidity problem.good luck and enjoy.
