hey peeps,

strating to gather all my little bits in preperation for building a fish room/breeding house.

not sure upon size yet but so far i have :

9- 2ft x 1.5ft x1ft drilled tanks
2-4ft
1-3ft
1-6ft

so im kinda thinking of ideas on the best way to filter, heat water change etc.

im porbably going to get a few more tnaks and turn them into sumps,

i like the idea of a drip system for water changing, but how would i set this up, i plan on having most tanks on the same water system bar so quarentee/hospital tanks.

i want to run one water source, 2 sumps one central water heater as well as heating the room

any suggestions would be really helpful

cheers jake

There was a topic around here someplace, where a young man said he was about to get a fish room going in a basement.

He showed a few photos of the basement before work started...What a mess!
The basement was a total joke.
The floor, the walls, the ceiling,. all falling apart.
If I were in that basement I would be scared for my life that the building was going to fall down.

Then he posted a few photos of him starting to jackhammer the floor and fix the water and the wireing...
I looked at the photos and thought to myself; "Give it up Kid, you are in over your head!"

More photos were posted of the fish room, again each photo showed just was a monster project this poor kid was attempting.

Then there was a photo posted where we see that some drywall had been hung up on the walls, and for the first time I could see a chance that the kid might have a chance to pull off something nice looking.

Later photos showed me just how much some drywall and new carpet can take a messed up basement room and turn it into a show place!
Truly the final photos of his new computer office with the state-of-the-art aqaurium was without flaw in design and appeal.

But thinking back on the whole topic, I guess what I learned is that there is little to stop a guy if he has some guts to start, and a willingness to finish.

All you need is guts to start and you end up with a great fish room,,
That, and some drywall.....

Search out CHOMPERS multi-tank system for starters.

Add up the real estate that the tanks will take up plus room to service them, sink and drain, filters, electrical service, enough room to view them, & then if possible... double it. Seriously.

well i have really got cracking on the fish room, its nothing compared to some of the stuff you guys have done, and i only have 9 tanks in there at the moment but im pretty happy with it,

i bought a breeding setup from ebay,

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P150308_175601.jpg

i got 9 x 2' x1.5' x1' drilled tanks, all his pipe work, a clarke submercible, and inline heater, sponge filters rocks lagging the lot. and metres and metres of air line

i then bought a few more tanks and some stands, i have a 6ft, two 4fts and a 3ft, the stands are 6ft two tier, 5ft two tier and two 4ft two tiers,

decided to paint the backs of the larger tanks

the shed

the inside, it is insulated very well then have 3/4 inch board to cover that, also have two waterproof membranes

the fish room is almost done, and how im now not single i dont know, lol-luckily i have a wonderful other half.

started off with strenghtening the floor, then laying some cushion floor, next the stands went in, - first problem, i was an 1" too wide, so i had to settle with two stands, a 6ft and a 4ft, the other 4ft and 5ft are now forsale(plug)

cut myself some polystyrene sheets for the tanks, then started about my water change system, using 15mm push fit tpk iirc, made the sysytem, and tried it, and it was flowing too much water and not pressurisng. i changed a few things this morning added some stops ends with a little hole in and the system pressured up, the soon to be father inlaw did the electrics for me, not done completely but getting there, uses arm core from the house, in to a rcd breaker running 32 amp and 6 amps for the water proof light

this morning, after i got the wc system sorted, i went onto the drains,

i have the side with the 6ft tank fully set up now, but ran out of pipe for the other, but the short side will all need pvc overflows made as none of those tanks are drilled.

there was a 4 ft on the left, but i needed that last night for an emergancy lol

here are some pics and a vid of the wc system

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P220308_1333.jpg

and a vid

http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/?action=view&current=V220308_1336.flv

got the rcd unit in, all the plugs and light fixing work,

all the drainage is also in, made these for the non-drilled tanks

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P230308_1243.jpg

and im starting to heat the room up, i bought some coral sand for the tanks so that will go intonight along with the appropriate buffers etc for the water,

then its a case of starting to cycle 9tanks lol

wish me luck

well the heater worked a charm, checked it this morning-all tanks were 35 degree's lol so turned the thermostat down,

as im limited on space im keeping stock down to quality over quantitie.

i must say i have spent a fortune so far, but was reccommended to do so by paul, as starting with strong stock is the best way lol so far i have:

a wc colony of Burundi frontosa (6) ranging in size from about 7" to 4 " think i have 2males and 4 females, but time and venting will tell.

thats the main 6ft tank sorted, i also have a 12" sailfin plec to go in there with them,

next is my 4 ft tank, which im particularly pround of:

small colony of wc Tropheus Chipimbi (5)

i have now buffered the tanks and got them pretty much ready for the filters tommorrow, i made lids, tidied the room and added a storage unit here arre final pics

sorry for the quality lol
