The tank will be for my stingrays. Dimensions will be 9-10 feet Lx 3 feet wide.

The tank will be on the main floor in my dining room so my original thoughts were to use Fluval FX5s (4 or 5) strictly due to noise of a wet/dry and also water on the floor chance bring drastically reduced by canisters. ideally however I would like a wet dry due to ease of cleaning.

This is part of my renos and so not being afraid to spend the extra money on the tank and design does anybody have some great tank/sump designs that will work in this circumstance? Also suggesting the tank will be just shy of 400 gallons what size of sump should I go with?

Also I guess looking for thoughts on glass, or acrylic

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=733042&highlight=indoor+pond#post733042 you could pretty it up or use crates for dining room chairs.

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58067 A variation could make it ray-ready.

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15090 if your dining room is big enough:D .

And maybe your best bet... http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12443

Are any of these the style you want to do?

Make it a wider tank
go like 5 feet

Im hoping to do a DIY 10x5x3

5 feet for the reason that you can have rays and aros for life. Theyre great tank mates.

True but eventually they do grow past that 3 foot point. And with all the money invested already you might as well have a huge width as well as tank too.
