I know this probably should go to filter and setup forum but since this is very much rays related with bioload and filtration, I decided to post here. I apologize in advance to mods if this isn't appropriate and feel free to move it if that's the case

I am building a new tank for the living room. My wife's requirements are it needs to be quiet so I am eliminating a moving bed filter idea with the sump.

I am thinking on running 2 - Aqua 2000 filters with Reeflo dart/barracuda depending on the head loss calculation that I will do later on.

As the drawing shows, I will have two FLOOR drains on the opposite end of the tank with two return in the middle back of the tank.

The returns will have two - 1.5" PVC pipe portruding from the floor.

The corner overflow will be small, just enough to house a 1" bulkhead for the drip drain.

My only concern at this point is the larger obnoxious ray knocking out the 1.5" PVC return pipe from the floor. Best case scenario, they knock the pvc from the inside the tank, worst case scenario, they crack the bulkhead and I will have a divorce pending at that time.

I need input on the design, as it sits since everything is a closed loop system other than the drip drain, the risk of sump flooding due to power outage are eliminated.

I'd like to get everyone's input as to what else could go wrong with this design. I do have a 2-3 18-20" rays that may reside in this tank from time to time (giving the female a break after birth and etc) and we all know the larger rays can knock anything over.

I would be hesitant to have floor drains with rays I would be worried the ray would cover the drain with its disc and get sucked on to the drain, or if you spring a leak it would completely empty your tank could be a total loss of stock unless you plan on running the floor drain higher than the bottom of tank. For the returns why not drill the back wall or the top then you wouldn't have to worry about divorce paperwork being delivered :) if the naughty ray knocks something loose. Btw I really like the idea of the corner overflow for the drip drain.

Thanks for the input, the floor drains would have a strainer obviusly but you may be right it may be trouble with new born pups since they usually come out when I am asleep lol

I do like the idea of drilling the back wall. Maybe I should do the drain through the backwall too ?

K1 fluidized beds are not all that noisey. I have my ray tank in my bedroom and I can't here my fluidized bed at all when the cabinet doors are closed.

My 600 is running with Ultima 2K and 125 gallon sump with K1, it's too loud for the wifey LOL

I actually had my 600 gallon drilled on the top for the closed loop filtration, my tank is in wall so you can't see the pipes if I had a tank in my family room I would drill back wall for both drain and return looks cleaner.
