48x48x24 cube with some chips (Read lots of water scaring the crap out of me) My question is can i build a plywood tank and use the 2 end panels 47x24 as front viewing panels on the new tank or would this be a disaster waiting to happen?

I know its not a fancy drawing just curious if it would work and if i should frame it 2x4 or 2x6 pond coat, resin/fiberglass or not bother lol never built a tank before and was considering this let me know what you think thanks in advance

I'm assuming your question is whether or not you can take apart your current tank to make a plywood one w 2 viewing windows. It can be done. I made a 55g into a 180G. You can do front frame w 2x4 but i'd just make plunge cuts in a piece of ply

yes take apart the current tank the new tank will be 96x48x26 about 500g i was wondering about the framing of the rear and sides of the tank the front was just going to be a piece of ply with the windows cut out and some cross braces over the top

I would personally just glue and screw 3/4" ply all the way around, but i guess most people feel more comfortable w the 2x4 frame. Any particular reason you don't want additional viewing windows using the front and back panes?

Good reasons indeed. Anyway, as i said earlier, i'd just glue and screw ply and i think you'll be just fine but if framing makes you more comfortable then go for it. Either way be sure to post pics so we can follow along

i believe i will start the build in about 2 weeks initially i will just glue and screw after it is sealed i will test for bowing if needed at this point i will do an external frame

Its a fairly shallow tank so w the braces up top you mentioned i don't think bowing will be an issue

Your going to use the glass from your 55g to use as windows in your new setup? Idk if that will work. When they pick the glass for 55 they consider the water pressure and go with what's cheapest. Being the diff in pressure from the original tank to your build I don't think the 1/4" glass of a 55g will hold up... I may be completely off on what your post is based on. If so I'm sorry lol
