Hi I am looking into building a really shallow 48"x48"x12" high tank, which is about a 120 gallon tank that will be used to raise stingray pups. My question is how hard would it be to make this? Which is better for this: glass or acrylic? What is the minimum glass (or acrylic) thickness that you would recommend? And lastly where should I buy the glass from? thanks in advance

if your just using it to grow out stingray pups, why don't you just build an all plywood tank and then use a pond liner. Or get a kiddie pool or large water holding tank and cut it down to your desired height.

For this project...

1) If it's going to be all one material, then plexy ( a 4ft square of glass with this kind of weight is not forgiving).

2) Since it's for rays, they like rounded sides over right angles so do like sigepoutdoor suggested and make a plywood box and use pond liner. And put cap around top edge to prevent them from 'swimming out'. :nilly:

Does anybody have any pics of these plywood tanks, I will definetly look into these. Wat demensions do you think are best and how much would something like this cost to make? Thanks

I think it would be easier to get a kiddy pool and build a nice wooden box around it for support and decoration. At 12 inches deep looking down into will not be a bad view at all.

And the pups will have fun and the biult-in slide .

Sorry just had a mental pic of them when no one was around :D.
