Building a stand for my 150. How thick should the material be? And how high off the ground is safe? I have an acrylic set up. Some schooling would be greatly appreciated. The dimensions are, 5' x 2 1/2 feet tall and 20" thick.

Thickness of material can vary depending on the design.
I used 2x4's (doubled 2x4's on vertical braces).
My stand is 30" tall, I personally wouldn't want to go much higher but it can be done.

This link gives you a basic idea. There are tons of designs on this forum, just do a search for diy stand.

Here is my diy stand for my 125 gallon.

Most stands on here have the horizontal 2x4's sitting up (more strength) instead of laying flat like mine.
As long as you have ample vertical support it isn't a problem though.

Here is the final product after plywood and stain.

If you have any questions just let me know.

I'm not for sure but I think will a acrylic tank the whole bottom needs to be supported, so you would need to put a plywood sheet on the top (where tank sits)
