Hello i am building a stand but i am stuck as to how wide i should build this thing... it will be 8' long and will be made with 6 4X4 supports (legs) and 2x4 and 2x6 studs... top is 23/32" plywood with a corian top already glued on..

my goal is to get a 180 or 220 tank in a couple of years... for now i am picking up a 125..

would you build the stand for the 125 @ 18" wide or just do it @ 24" wide for the 180/220...

what i am saying is that @ 24" an 18" wide tank will not sit on the edges of the main support but more so in the center.. will the plywood hold the weight without sagging? i don't know this is why i am asking here....

I would assume it would be ok but with over 1000 pounds of water, gravel, fish ect...

would like to hear your experience/opinion...

thanks,
Paul

Build the stand for the 125. When you get your bigger tank you will still need a stand for the 125.

You could modify your stands design to fit both, doing the 18" / 24". Plywood can be surprisingly strong, especially if waterproofed, but I would add supports for sure. If you plan on keeping the 125 when you upgrade, build 2 stands like everyone else said.

Why an 8 foot stand for a 6 foot tank?
