Hello MonsterFishKeepers,
I was thinking about donating a 75 G or a 100 G fish tank to a nursing home.I was going to build it at first, but shopping around for prices has me thinking it would be cheaper to buy.I do have a couple of questions and all answers are welcomed. Is the thickness of the glass not dependent on the height ?would 1/4 inch become for a height of 21 incs?also is it cheaper to buy rather than to build a tank? What are some cheap glass places i can buy glass at?

Thank You,
Andrew Young

on that size of a tank its way cheaper to buy the tank man.
if you are goin over 300 gal thats when it becomes cost effective to build your own

Too bad you don't live in the Northeast. Stores (Petco, Petland Discount) have tanks on sale all the time, usually for $1/gallon. Right now Petland Discount has 75 gallon tanks on sale until Dec. 31 for $75.00 each.

As far as your question goes, it is usually cheaper to buy a tank than to build one if it is 125 gallons or less. As the tank size goes up, you need thicker glass and thus the price goes up on ready made tanks. Also check Craigslist in your area. I am sure there are lots of used tanks available for a reasonable price.

have a look for a tank thats being sold/given away due to a leak? got given my 100gal for nothing due to a leak, only cost silicone + time to re-seal
