:)you sump sould not have bio media correct me if i'm roung this is how it should look the heater fit into the first chamber you keep the foam to remove any debrse and the you have the refuge(sp) part. hope this helps:)

What type of S/W.
Bioballs will do a good job of breaking down everything to nitrates, but S/W inverts. hate nitrates.
Your drawing shows more of a sump than a wet/dry. Place the heaters wherever. If you plan inverts., use the sump for live sand/rock to help with nitrates. The floss is good for the big stuff.
If fish only, use bioballs in a wet/dry config. and do water changes as needed to control nitrates (gets expensive).
There are more high tech ways, but they get even more costly.

its just a fowlr, inhabitants will be zebra moray, damsel, tomato clown, 3 green chromis, lawnmower blenny maybe a few gobies and a few other little fish... i just need it to be low maintenance since im goin away for a year in a year and my parents must take care of it, 150lbs live rock and 100lbs live sand/aragonite mix, im makin my own overflow and doin all the rest myself, im going to try to optimize my filtration with the space provided, it is also supposed to be a sump

figured, foam (+floss) will remove debris and host some bacteria, refugium to decrease algae growth in tank and provide nutrient export, bioballs for more bacteria (wet and dry kind), i was also planning on putting some airstones in the sump somewhere, i was thinking right before the water exits the refugium

Looks do-able ... put the air stone (lime wood type, use in foam fractionator too) under the bio-balls to promote bacteria growth.

Use a very course live sand if it is going to be higher than the botton of the foam filter so it doesn't clog and back-up the whole thing.

Your still going to have to train your parents you know :D.

And then yourself when you get back ;).

Good luck and post so pix of your endevers,

ya my dad is a DIY guy, and my mom is an animal lover (4 birds 4cats everything else has passed away), they will take good care of it, im not worried, i was planning on posting all the pics of the 150 inwall and sump construction on this site within the next couple weeks, i am just waiting for it to arrive (ordered November 2, miracle says it will be at bigals on nov. 9, then a week or two from then i will be done)

what do u mean train myself when i get back, i dont understand

wouldnt the bioballs be a bad place for it because the airstones create a lot of current, and the current is going down while the airstones would be going up, it might overflow
i figured right before the refugium ends because then the compounds in the air would be saturated in the water which would then be used easier by the bacteria on the bioballs, also, half (no one can make up their mind about 1/3 or 2/3 under water, so im comprimising) of the bio balls would not be under water anyways allowing for different bacteria growth
