Sorry for this noob question on building glass tanks

What is the best way to seam a tank together? Here is the diagram thing...

I'm not sure if you can see the difference but if you do, can someone say which number is the best one?

Is it good to have a little bit silicon between the glass or should it just be on the inside like on pic 1.

#1 and 3 are a bit exaggerated but its supposed to show a layer of silicon between the glass while 2 and 4 show that there is no silicon the glass.

Any help would be appreciated :D

If this helps, the tank will only be a 12 inch cube tank.

Thanks!

Ah, ok

So should i have no silicon at all where the two faces of glass meet? Just on the sides?

The correct answer is #1. that is how all of my professional custom tanks were built.

Hmmz Off all the answers given here, I don't see #3 which is in my opinion the best. That way the sidepanes stand on the underground instead of the bottom. With the slicone between the sides and the bottom pane, the bottom can absorb height differences much better as the silicone can stretch a little. All the glass tanks I have made I glued like this, and the largest aquarium builder in Holland works like this as well. A rule of thumb is to keep 3mm space between the glas panes when the silicone is applied

How large will the tank be?

The tank will be a 12 x 12 x 12 inch cube. 7.5 Gallons.

Haha, so much different answers xD. I think i'll go with 3 now.

Any tips on how to keep the panes 3 mm apart but still standing straight?

I can't find any diy things on how to build an all glass tank. All i see is mostly plywoods with a front piece of glass.

Thanks for all the help guys :headbang2

I'm not sure of the size, but they make spacers for laying tile to make the grout space even. Go to Home Depot and and take a look at what they have, if they are too big you could trim them with a knife.
