So i was in lowes the other day and found myself in the pvc section and decided to buy some pipes and caps to make two columns for my tank. My initial idea was to glue gravel to them but needless to say I'm quickly abandoning that mission, I've scrubbed the pvc with course grit sand paper and got the pvc nice and clean but dont want to put them in the tank just plain white any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thought about painting, but not sure about using paint in my tank

If you want them covered with gravel or sand then get some aquarium safe silicone and cover the pvc with it, then roll it in the gravel and let it dry. I've done that before with sand and had pretty good results. If you still would rather paint then krylon fusion spray paint is the way to go. It bonds to the pvc and won't flake or be harmful to your fish.

I gave the gravel thing a go, but the columns are a pretty good size and gonna take a lot of silicone, I've seen quite a few post about krylon fusion paint in several different forumns, you dont know anyone who has used it by chance do you

I've seen it used on several build threads on here for pvc plumbing in the tanks to match the background. I've also heard of it being used safely in Reef tanks so your good.

the fusion is good and i just used it recently been in tank for about 3 weeks. one thing is to make sure u do wait the 7 days id do it even 8. i waited 5 and i got small chips in it

I have had great results with the two that I built. I used 3 pieces of 4 inch PVC, cut odd shaped holes and zip tied them together stacked horizontialy(sp) and siliconed riverrock and other types of rock to it. I have a picture, but i am at work. I know I put pics in my thread: "100 gallon hardwood and glass".
