so my mother has requested a small pond and im not going to pass up the chance to build one. As you can see from the picture, the area is in between a concrete slap and the brick wall, just to the right out of view is a decent sized tree with decent sized roots.

So should I go pre-formed pond or rubber liner? it is a tight spot and liner would be easier to work with but I fear the tree roots piercing the flexible liner.

If I do go liner, will the aquatic plants roots pierce the liner, or will the weight of rocks on the sides and bottom of the liner stretch it out too much?

Lastly im making the filter to be as easy as possible to cleans...deciding between these two styles (a box filters/waterfall combo is what it will be)
