So here's my first pond that I started building yesterday. It will house a Festae pair and thats it. It's around 700 gal. I plan on having it ready by next weekend!

So far I've used about 600 pounds of assorted stones, a few pumps for circulation, etc

Right now I'm gonna start covering the soil with cypress mulch and planting some stuff around it...

Next step is the waterfall and the plants... and of course draining it and re-filling with clear water.

:nilly:It's pretty exciting but also a lot of work and since I'm doing everything alone (including digging) it's even worse! lol

Looks nice, but doesn't look anywhere near 700 gallons. What are the dimensions? An easy way to tell how many gallons would be to time how long it takes to fill up a 5 gallon bucket with your hose, and then time how long it takes to fill the pond. Say it takes 30 seconds to fill up 5 gallon bucket, that's 10 gallons a minute. Takes 30 minutes to fill the pond, you've got a 300 gallon pond. Just using easy numbers. :)

Just measured

length = 10 feet

width = 5 feet at the deep part, 3 feet at the shallow part = average 4 feet

depth = 4 feet deep part, 2 feet shallow part, average = 3 feet

http://www.pondcare.com/reference-center/pond-calculator/index.aspx

10 feet x 4 feet x 3 feet deep = US 898 gallons

After adding 600 pounds of rock, etc I guessed 700 gallons sounded right. Guess not lol

by the way that picture of the hole is not the final thing... it's just the first hole I dug to have an idea of the limits

What a great home for a great pair of fish.
