I started building my stand for my 125 gallon tank yesterday. I'm almost done, I ran out of screws today so I'll have to pick some more up tomorrow. Over all I'm pleased with the way it's turning out. I had Menards cut the 2x4's, the guy didn't cut all of them to the same length as you will be able to see from the pictures. I think I can still work with it. Once the plywood is on it should look a lot better. Here is what I've done so far. Do you guys think it's enough or should I add more? I've 2 2x4's together, glued with wood glue and I also have angle brackets on every angle. Some angles there are two brackets side by side. The tank is on it's side in the pictures.

I like the look, but I'm not sure on how much support is needed for a 125. Hope an expert chimes in.

From a web site i saw they said to used 4x4's and one bracket everywhere. I'm using 2 2x4's and doubling the brackets in some spots.

is t because your saw (assuming its a circular) is a trim saw (cut depth of about 2") and not a framing saw? Reason I ask is because I ran into the same issue with my above ground pond, could only cut 2x4's and not 4x4's.

edit- just noticed you said the store cut the wood, then why no 4x4, im sure the money saved from using less brackets would make up for the loss on 2x4 vs 4x4.

Believe or not the brackets were 59 cents and the cheapest 4x4's they had were $8. I got all the wood for $23. If I was going to get 4x4 it would have been $72.

The guys at menards said 2 2x4's would be better then 4x4s too. From looking at other's builds, i may have gone over board. Everything should be done tomorrow besides final touches. I'd like to at the very least get plywood on top so I can set the tank on it. It's been sitting in the back of my jeep since Sunday.

I am pretty sure you did over do it. Not a bad thing though. I used less 2x4's and less brackets for my 180 stand and I've also seen stands for larger tanks w/ less. Maybe you could post some larger pics so we could see some possible design flaws.

I guess when it comes to a stand, you can never over do it... Maybe when it comes down to upgrading to a larger tank down the line I can reuse the stand. I'm off to the hardware store now to pick up some more things. I'll post more pictures later... You should be able to click the pictures to make them larger.
