I'm building a stand into the wall of my basement and I've got a pretty decent start on it (I think?). I've run into an issue in that the stand has a "high spot" in it that is causing the level to be off. Is it possible to use insulating foam under the tank to let itself level off or should I be tearing the stand down and starting over (not my first choice if I can avoid it...)

I've included a few pictures of what I've got so far if anyone wants to chime in with ideas.

Thanks, and I'm loving the site!

you should begood to put styrofoam under the tank. i havent personally built a stand but the dude at my local aquarium wholesaler told me the styrofoam board absorbs all unevenness.

it really depends how much its out by.

if its only a couple of mm then styro will be fine, if its more than that i would be looking at addressing the problem.

If the top piece isn't attached yet, i would remove that and then fine the area that is high and plane it back until the top is level. if its the bottom thats causing the non level then shim it.

Use a sheet of styro on top even when the stand is level as it adds an extra layer of security.

i think i've decided that i better do the job right the first time as opposed to running into problems down the road. if i wasn't building the tank into the wall i may not bother but since it's going to be a permanent fixture it's probably better to invest a little time. i'm going to take the osb off the top and shim it level all the way around. it's going to be somewhat painful timewise but at least i can rest easy that everything is level at then end of it. if it wasn't off by much i'd use the suggested cardboard/styrofoam fixes but it's almost a centimetre and half lower at the one end.

I had the same issue with my DIY stand in the basement.
It wasn't perfect since the floor is designed to drain toward the sump.
I used a sheet of 3/4 pink styrofoam insulation board cut to fit, and it leveled itself as it filled perfectly. Also helped insulate the bottom from the cold floor in the winter.
