Buildup in my return hose.

What is the graying brown buildup in my return hose? I have to clean my return hose every week or this stuff starts braking off and going in the tank.

Algae / diatoms

If you are really worried about it put a large UV sterilizer after your pump. Could also lower food / lights and do more frequent water changes. Or don't worry about it.
