I recently finished gluing my 3d background together. It is a rock backgroud based on ones i ve seen online from the stores. Does anyone know of nontoxic paints that i can use to paint the background with; it has to be water submisserble. I ve thought of using quickcrete but want to try something different. Paints..??? Ive read acrylic paint might work, and/or krylon?? Has anyone tried these.

Im not sure about paint but that look amazing wish I had the artistic abilty to do something like that.I cant wait to see it painted

thanks, its cut into 4 pieces for easier installation and has two caves. The left side of the the background was made hollow to camo the filter and heater; has in and out flow. Took about 20 hours to make it this far.. the hard part is painting and what to paint with. Will post the After pics up for viewing when its done. So far the fishes are hating life in the transfer tank but they'll live.

most people now days use drylok and concrete pigments. with the drylok once it is dry it is fish safe. concrete would require a lot of curing and water changes to make fish safe

that looks amazing though

so drylok can be used imediately w/o ph problems and rinising daily??

Give it a day or two to dry but that would be correct. What you need to watch is the silicone. I've run into problems since it takes a while to cure behind the background. I would use as little as possible and give it atleast a week, longer if you can. I'd also run carbon when you first set it up again, just in case. The aceitic acid released by drying silicone can kill fish.

Go with the grey drylock and get some brown and black dyes. You can make almost everything with those three colors.

drylok.. is this a paint or a cement? would i need to hit it with clear coating afterwards j/w. I tried to look it up online but too many came up, unsure of which to use.
