Coming from FTD one of their built in systems... 550g tank or so, gonna do two 2400gph pump

I’m not sure how it looks but,

I guess there are 4 - 1” drain bulkheads built into the overflow boxes and two 3/4” return bulkheads.

Shadow/ghost/ and bean or something? Styles of plumbing it seems?

I’ve been trying to look for pictures to edicate myself...

Any pictures of your set up or brief explanations are appreciated...

Thanks!

My 300 gallon tank was built pre-Bean Animal era. The return line comes up through the overflow box and then back into the tank through a hole in the top of the tank.

On my tank the return pipe is in the front on the left in this picture. The real beauty is that except for the return nozzle, all the plumbing can be hidden in the overflow box or under the canopy. (Of course, in our case, we added mechanical plumbing so have vertical pipes in our tank)

Overflow boxes with all the plumbing inside can make for great esthetics. I love this picture from Midwest Custom Aquarium's gallery:

On my big tank, the eight returns come up through the overflow boxes and are staggered between the slotted weirs.

There are all kinds of configurations for overflow returns.

Helpful! Thanks!

On a tank that size I’d say at minimum have 1-1/2” drains and go for the Bean animal for plumbing setup. A bean animal uses one drain for a full siphon that takes most of the flow. The second drain is setup as a durso and takes the remaining flow. The third drain is a emergency drain and only takes water is something were to go wrong with the primary or secondary drains.
