Hi guys,

I recently picked this fish up as a "Blue Acara", but it really doesn't look like one to me. I did a bit of digging and thought maybe she might belong to the Bujurquina genus. What you can't see from the pictures is that sometimes she displays a very dark and pronounced line that runs the length of her body.

Really though, I have no clue as Ive always been more into Central American cichlids than anything else.

Please pardon the quality. She's a bit shy and these were about the best I could do since I can't seem to upload the video I took. Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

It's too washed out to tell anything. You'd need a picture of the fish with its fins extended and its markings showing. Wait until it settles in and repost. Right now it looks more like something Andinoacara but it's hard to say without markings.

Here's a couple more pictures that show some of her markings a bit better.

She's been in the tank a week, and so I believe this is her typical coloration. She was the runt of the group and was being picked on by some convicts she shared a tank with at the lfs, which is why I snagged her

You can rule out Bujurquina with where the lateral line ends. If it were a member of that genus, the lateral line would end where the dorsal fin meets the body.

Thank you both! I think you guys are spot on.

Darth - you're absolutely right. I didn't notice that the lateral line seems to stop halfway in all Bujurquina when I was looking at them as being a possibility.

Ryan - Now that you mention the Aequidens genus, I think you're correct. Especially with her lateral line extending all the way back to her tail fin. I can definitely see her coloring up to look like some of the adults I've seen.

Thanks again guys!
