A pair of mouthbrooding Bujurquina zamorensis have laid their eggs on the base of a plastic plant that had come free of it. This genus is a delayed mouthbrooder, and they spawn on movable surfaces such as leaves, flat stones and thin pieces of slate. They normally move their eggs around on their chosen object to help keep them out of harms way. They employ the same strategy as Tahuantinsuyoa macantzatza ( Inca Stone cichlid) in this regard. This tank is completely devoid of any structure and has five large severums (one pair with young of their own) in it which absolutely dwarf these 4" Bujurquina. Nevertheless they are fearlessly guarding their spawn, right out in the open. You can see in the video the female, and then the male having difficulty moving the egg bearing object.
