Question #1 is for intake bulkhead placement....It's a 180 I'm working on and I want two bulkheads on each back, top....I have all the materials ready....Can I drill away at any point around each back corner, or is there a prefered distance from top????

Question #2 is on bulkhead itself....The diameter of the hole is 1 1/4....The lfs dude said it was 1 inch...So I purchased a 1 inch drill tooth for drilling....I went home and fit the drill bit inside(the bulkhead) and what do you know, :angryfire there's a quarter inch gap all around....I should exchange the 1 inch drill bit for a 1 1/4 bit, right?????Thanks

Answer #2 (the easy one since you answered it already). Yes; and take the bulkhead with you. Since you mentioned teeth in reference to the drill bit, bits with teeth are for acrylic only. To drill through glass you will need a diamond bit. I paid $15 for three of them. I have seen the same tool selling for $35 each.

Answer #1. Depends on what you have in terms of a bulkhead fitting. If you purchased a kit that included a strainer and 90 degree hose barb, then you will want to place the holes as high as the gasket on the bulkhead will allow you. If you purchased only the bulkhead fitting, then you need to decide on the 'in tank' plumbing. This can include a 90 degree elbow facing up, just a strainer, or maybe an upward facing tee followed by a downward 90 so that you can suck from the bottom of the tank (gets a lot of the poo out of the tank).

Thanks Chompers....You right, it's an acrylic tank....I've also printed out a thread here showing a diagram of that upward facing tee/downward 90 degree thing....I guess once I have the right tooth bit I'll start drilling probably within 2-4 inches from top of tank...Thanks

Hey import, just keep in mind that the placement of the bulkhead will affect your water line. I like to keep it as high as possible (hidden by the tank frame). If you put the bulkheads at four inches, that is where your water line will be unless you plumb upwards.

Could you post a link to this tee/90 thread? TIA
