Bulkhead help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Couldn't tell from description where the leak is coming from exactly.

If its the gasket not contacting all around creating a seal - just remove the bulkhead and o ring, clean all around where gasket makes contact to bulkhead and inside of tank, clean and lubricate gasket with silicone based lubricant and tighten down bulkhead nut.

The external threads are just there to tighten down the bulkhead nut to seal gasket against tank wall. Nothing should ever be put on them.

or

If the threaded portion of the bulkhead fitting, used for connecting plumbing is leaking - always use some type of thread sealant when plumbing threaded fittings. Something like this can often be easier than tape to get a proper seal https://www.homedepot.com/p/Blue-Monster-4-oz-PTFE-Pipe-Thread-Sealant-76001/306136383

I have these 3 choices from all my feedback.
Fishman on YouTube said to use a bead of aquarium silicone.
Tomorrow is the big day and I have hardwood floors...

I don't think you are going about this the right way for a bulkhead.

One side of bulkhead will be flat, the other side has threads. You should place the flat circular rubber seal on the flat side, not the thread side. If you dont have a flat O ring, you can make one or buy one.

Trying to seal threads is always going to be difficult.

I'm gonna install today! I'm gonna put the o seals on the inside of the tank with threads down and washer underneath, I'm gonna put some aquarium silicone on the threaded side then tighten up by hand with a slight turn with wrench.
