It’s not that complicated. Maybe it’s time for some fresh bulkheads. The rubber gasket on the inside of the bulkhead should be all you need to seal it water tight. If it doesn’t seal then it either has dirt on it or the gasket has shrunk and it needs to be replaced. The inside threads of the bulkhead should be plugged and you should only be using Teflon tape to seal the threads. If that’s not working your not using enough Teflon tape. I wouldn’t use anything else because I’d be worried about it leaching chemicals into the water.
All the bulkheads sealed and no leaks.
I started getting a small leak from the stopper on one of the bulkheads.
I'm gonna back out each stopper and wrap with Teflon tape and screw back in.
Any trick on tightening the stopper when I try and back it out the whole bulkhead moves?
Should I have someone with another vise grip on the other end of the bulkhead?
I'm gonna install today! I'm gonna put the o seals on the inside of the tank with threads down and washer underneath, I'm gonna put some aquarium silicone on the threaded side then tighten up by hand with a slight turn with wrench.
This may have been your problem if you installed the seal on the bottom (outside) of tank then that would explain leak through threads. Sounds like you have corrected the issue bulkhead seals always go on the side that holds water (inside of tank) I also use pipe dope for threaded connectors works great
Everything worked perfect with the Teflon tape on each stopper.
I filled up 180 gallons and now I am getting a tiny drop every hour out of one of the stoppers on the bottom.
Can I give it a small turn to seat it better while the tank is full or should I drain the tank and then turn it? Or can I add some silicone or cement on the stopper?
Thanks so much everyone.
It hasn't leaked in 4 hours and I don't want to drain the tank again.
Anyone know if I can put a bead of silicone on the stopper threads or does it have to be completely dry for that to work?
Or maybe a bead of rector seal and use a blow dryer?
