I have to install 4 bulkheads into my 180 and I am open to ANY suggestions. Each bulkhead came with a rubber gasket so I thought that would eliminate all leaks. Do I need to add any silicone to the bulkheads? How "tight" should these be tightened? Hand tight then a 1/4 turn? Thanks in advance for any help!

Dont use silicone on the gaskets. Hand tightening them should be sufficient. just make sure you place the gasket on the inside of the aquarium not the outside.

Be sure to hold the part inside the tank
(part of the bulkhead with the gasket) still,
while you tighten the nut part...this way the gasket won't wrinkle

once the nut makes square contact to the glass/plexi, 1/4 to 1/2 turn should do it...

:iagree: if you need a lube, incase it does leak when you test it, you can use teflon paste on the seal. i have done this befor with older gasgets and it works well and is nontoxic, also works great on stubborn theads. just an ida for yah
