wha are good startegies for catching bullfrogs??? i went to a pond today and was photographing a few bull frogs when i realize that it would be much funner to catch them too. but every time i get within like 4 feet they re gone and make big SPLASHes in the water. i abasloutly hate how i can never see frogs until they have jumped from their hididng spots into the watwer. that really sucks. what really gets to me about that though is that you pretty much have no clue what specie it was. so, what are some good startaegies for catching bullfrogs, leopard frogs, pickerel frogs, green frogs, etc.? thanks.

get a really strong flash light, have someone hold it on the bullfrog once you spot it and then you sneak up and grab it. The light will blind it for a bit allowing you to get close enough to make a grab with a net. This technique works well on gators and leopard frogs too.

used to catch tons of em, just a big worm on a hook, creep up on em and dangle the worm right in front of their face, but make sure they really take it, cause sometimes they spit it out and get it stuck in their hand

the light works, so does this:
1. locate your frog
2. throw something, like a small stone into the water near the frog. behind him if possible. this should make him jump farther onto shore.
3. quickly throw another small stone behind him so he thinks something is chasing him, thus making him jump farther away from water.
4. run forward and throw a net or shirt onto the frog so you can scoop him up.
5. enjoy your frog!!!
done it many times, also works for lizards. it takes practice but you will get it down. its more fun to just catch them barehanded and jump in the water after them, but this works.

sounds mean but i also catch them on rod and reel, my favorite bait for larger ones is a scum-frog. Lots of fun just debarb your hooks and they will be fine.

A big net with a long pole. You will understand which way they jump, usualy towards the water. Just try to get one mid air, be careful though they can be strong. Not fun when you try to catch one and fall in the water.

Flashlight and net works good at night. I'll have to try the rock throwing method. A little wierder method I use during the day is a riding lawnmower and net. The frog doesn't seem to flee from the mower and you can easily scoop them up.
