OLMSTED, Ill. --

A commercial fisherman said he found a shark in the Ohio River.

The fisherman found the two-foot shark already dead on a boat ramp Thursday morning in Olmsted, Ill. It appeared the shark washed up after flood waters receded.

Shark In Ohio River

Missouri Conservationist Agent A.J. Hendershott said the shark is probably a juvenile bull shark.

Bull sharks can survive in fresh water and have been known to travel up the Mississippi River from the Gulf of Mexico, but it's unusual to see a shark so far north up the Ohio River.

dang only a dumped shark

I do think we will see more and more bull sharks in freshwater, as they do have babies in freshwater that can live. It was once thought that the young bulls couldnt handle freshwater, but they can. Instead of the invasion of the asian carp it will be the invasion of the Bull shark. :grinno:

And the article says that attacks in freshwater are unusual, but they can and do kill in freshwater.

Bull sharks are common in freshwater here in Australia on the east coast where I live
my local river was the one featured on Rivermonsters. Plenty of attacks recorded here in freshwater.

I heard the stories about Bull sharks were once found in Great Lakes and in IL. I have no doubts that they swim in Mississippi River.

Maybe they can eat all the bighead carp :)
You hit the nail right on the head, If they can and do find this food source they will breed and be in the river like crazy if they are not all ready. I call this the unseen invasion. But maybe its just a crazy thought.
