Hi everyone, this is my first time here. I also just got my first aquarium about a month ago and I'm happy to say all of the fish made it through the first three weeks so i'm hoping i did something right.
Now for the bulldog pleco accident, i happened upon this funny little guy at wal-mart and had no clue what it was nor did anyone who worked there, he was not listed and obviously had accidently been mixed with some small little catfish looking guys. So I immediately wanted the little guy, the people who worked there charged me 3 bucks cause they had no clue what it was,and it wasnt until i googled him that I even knew.
So now for the delimma, I have no idea if he's gonna be ok in my aquarium or what his basic needs are. It was an impulse buy and I should have maybe done some research first. I live in texas and I had never seen one before so I just bought it. PLEASE HELP!!:WHOA:

No secret to fish keeping:

1. Clean water, i.e. - water changes and lots of filtration.
2. Start with healthy fish
3. Make sure they can live together peacefully.
4. Feed them a variety of commercially prepared fish foods.

In the case of your bulldog or rubber lipped pleco? Water movement, stones it can clean - algae based bottom feeder discs.

Those guys need alot of room. They love to explore and feed on algae wafers. They would need some caves and rocks for cover. They really are a shy fish considering that their name is bulldog.

Thanks everyone for all your help, I will go get the bubble wall today! I also wondered about the partial water change. Do you keep the fish in the tank? Wouldn't the temp change affect them? Do I treat the water first? Is it safe to use bottled water?

Leave your fish in the tank when doing your water changes/tank maintenance. Remove about a third of the water with a siphon and get rid of it. Replace this water with tap water treated with dechlorinator. Bring this up to the same temperature of the tank with lukewarm water. Then just simlpy add this back into the tank until it's topped up.

:)

One more piece of advice..........refrain from buying fish fron walmart
