How big do Bulldog Plecos get and can they be kept with blue rams? I'm thinking about getting one for my prospective tank if they're compatible.

Bulldog pleco may grow to about 5" long. Should have no problem keeping them with Rams or other small cichlids. They like similar water conditions to Rams as well, soft and slightly acid.

Thanks, Ian. Hopefully I can keep one in a 10g. I'm really looking forward to getting this tank.

I'll do some research on the two of them. I mainly need to know which one is the smallest and most compatible..

I'm going to put 1-2 Otos in the tank. I was thinking of keeping both the otos and a pleco with the rams. I'm not quite sure how that community would work. I like the way that both of them look and behave. The otos remind me of miniatue sharks too.

Would it make more sense to keep otos or the pleco?

Otos are the smallest species of Pleco, should be fine with any 'community' species. But if you go with Otos get at least 4, they are a very social little fish and prefer to live in a group. They will be much happier and playfull in a group and you will see them out and about much more. Luckily, because they are so small you can keep a mob of them in most any tank. They will be fine with other small plecos as well.

Bristlenose plecos will work too, they are peacefull and wont hassle your rams or other fish. Do some research on them as they do need different diets to normal fish. Nothing exotic, but they cant just live on algae and leftovers for very long :(. Some pleco tablets and a mix of fresh vege chunks will keep them much happier.

Pretty much any pleco will be OK, but many of them grow BIG and will tend to re-arrange the tank furnishings before eventually outgrowing the tank

The ones you are looking at will be fine in a smaller tank.

Cheers
