I was doing a water change and one of the 16 + inch tinfoil’s must have startled a ray and the ray stung it. The tinfoil was upside down for a day (I kept trying to right it but it kept floating back up - thought it must have been hit in the air bladder).

The rays chew of the dorsal and tail fin the first 2 nights but each day the tinfoil barb kept getting better. By the 4th day, the tinfoil was consistently upright but would rise to the surface on its side when attempting to swim.

Ultimately, long story short 2 weeks later and its fine, no worse for the wear.

Here’s a bad image of the puncture wound when it happened. It’s the subtle red mark by the pelvic fin.

Tinfoil barbs are hard to kill, you hardly ever hear about problems with them, and they rarely seem to get picked on.

I agree with the hardiness of Tin-Foils. I have had more than 30 of them over the past 2 years and not one has died. --ever. The've never even jumped out. They are easy to keep if you just have an appropriate sized tank. My favorites were when I had 12 of them in one shoal. They were awesome. I now at the moment have only 6 (sold the others when they got too big for the tank I had at the time) but I think I enjoyed it more when there were 12 in my 75 gal.

Glad it pulled through.
