Hey Guys

I know bullheads can be territorial, but can anyone give me an idea on how well bullheads of different species will do together. I want to have brown, yellow, black, and flat bullheads together if it can be done. They would be in a pond at least 300 gallons with plenty of hiding places. The pond will be attached to another pond by a small stream that will be close to 5000 gallons. So the waste load wont be a problem. How many total would be appropriate in a 5'x5'x2' pond. Thank in advance for any advice.

Then they will be fine in the pond as long as you provide few driftwood and shelters for them tho flat bullheads will probably try to take a shelter in the stream. Larger bullheads may ended up in the larger pond by the small stream. Large yellow bullheads prefer live in solitary so keep the yellow bullhead numbers low. As for the 300gal pond, I would say no more than 10 bullheads if they are less than 9". But brown, black and yellow bullheads do get larger up to 15" so a 300gal may hold 2-3 larger bullheads (regardless what species) that is over 14"

The flatheads are going to have a nice dinner if they are bigger than the bullheads. Just make sure they are close in size.

The 75-100 black & brown bullheads that I have usually all stick together in a group.

He meant flat bullheads, ameiurus platycephalus (iirc), not flatheads (pylodictis olivarus). Flat bullheads only grow to 10".
