Bullhead in Indoor Pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Holes in the liner will be the least of your problems. A bullhead will outgrow that pond very quickly. Do you have a larger tank or pond you plan on putting it in once it outgrows the indoor pond?

Other than that, I shouldn't expect a bullhead to put holes in a liner, even a 15mil one.

You may want to reconsider for another reason, you may never see him from above. Very secretive fish.

Theyy max out at 18 inches dont they, so the general rule 10 gallons per inch of fish, 180 gallons with 70 to spare. Im ok not seeing him to often, and feeding time will be interesting.

Well, I guess it depends on the species. And yeah, they max out smaller than I was thinking. I think I was thinking of channel or something...

Anyways, you could keep one or two in a 250g pond, you'd just need some pretty good filtration.

As far as the fins piercing the liner, I wouldn't worry about it. If it does worry you, you can get a cheap 20mil liner on ebay for like $60. Put that inside the 15mil liner, and you'll definitely have no problems.

Thanks, I'll stick with one now, the liners inside a preformed with a hole in the bottom so if it does leak I can just run a hose from that hole to my yard. It will be around 2 inched when it arrives, should I just move it directly to the pond, it will be by itself, or grow it to 4 inches in a 10 gallon before moving it.

You might keep it in a smaller tank, if you have one handy, at least till it puts on a couple more inches. It will be easier to feed it and keep track of its health in a smaller tank. If you don't have anything handy or ready for it, you could go ahead and put it in the pond, just be sure to spot feed right in front of it and watch it eat so that it doesn't starve to death.
