Today i went fish in a nearby pond with a friend of mine. I caught 4-5 catfish and after doing some research i think i have identified them as wither a yellow bullhead, or a black bullhead.
I was wondering what size tank would be good for one of these if i were to put in an aquarium. Im not saying i will since i probably dont have the right tank, but if i were to get, say a 40-50 gallon tank, do you think i would be able to keep one?

Thanks in advance, :)

after looking over the pictures it looks more like a yellow bullhead than a black one.

Edit: definitely a yellow bullhead that i caught. thought you might want to know.

These fish can get a foot and a half long on the extreme upper end. They can be kept fairly well in a 55 gallon tank, but that is a minimum for one fish.

i kept mine in a 55 for a while before i stuck him in a pond, id say he ws about 9 in and not growing anymore

the ones i was catching were 3-4" long.

oh yea man, throw a couple of those in ur 50 for a little while and check your area craigslist, and check on here youll prolly find a decent 90gal for cheap and then you can house those guys for life. they have great personalities and mine used to play around with eachother and play hide n go seek with the feeder fish. the one would kill the feeder. hide it under a rock, and then the other would find it, dig it up, and burry it somewhere else. there great fish, have fun with em man

tscharf is right about the cheap tanks. I got my 50 long for $40. It was a really solid old tank too, it had half inch glass.

They are awesome little fish , I had 1 of them in a 150 gallon tank a few years ago man he was a trip to watch definetley worth getting
