is it possible for a bullhead and channel cat to hybridize?

Or perhaps a RTC and channel or RTC and bullhead?

Are RTCxTSN hybrids sterile? ive never heard a case in which theyve bred but that would be cool. I have my hybrid in with 1 soon to be 2 RTC and a TSN, i think it would be cool if they bred.

ITS POSSIBLE BUT UNLIKLY FOR THE BULLHEADS N CHANNEL CATS BUT ID SAY IMPOSSIBLE WITH THE RTC, RTC ARE TROPICAL FISH AND THE B.H. AND C.C. ARE INDIGINUS TO NORTH AMERICA, THE GENES ARE TO DIFFRENT

reply, yea thats what i figured but who knows, i mean wolves can crossbreed with other dogs, they are all canines and these are all catfish. either way though i was just curious. Any idea on how i could increase the likelihood of a hybrid

Not quite the same though. All the current dog breeds are actually selectively bred ancestors of wolves, technically they can be regarded as the same species. Canines (dogs, foxes, wolves etc.) represent a family within a much larger order called Carnivora which includes the majority of mammalian carnivores including cats, bears, weasels etc. Catfishes are more diverse, like Carnivora they belong to an entire order all to themselves known as the Siluriformes with about 37 families. One family is the Ictaluridae family which bullheads and channel cats belong to. Another family is the Pimelodidae family which tiger shovelnoses and red-tail catfish belong to. Generally species need to be in the same family in order to breed, hybrids between families are very rare. RTCs and TSNs can create a hjybrid because they belong to the same family and are closely related enough to do so. Since bullheads and channel catfish also belong to the same family they may very well be able to create hybrids as well. I doubt however that any kind of cross can be created between the Ictaluridae and Pimelodidae families. To do so would be more like crossing a dog with a cat or a weasal with a bear than it would be a dog with a wolf.

That would be cool if the cross produced a fish that could survive in temperate climates.

I think an RTC that only reached the size of a bullhead would be cool myself.

you could probally breen an RTC to reach the size of a bullhead, just selectively breed smaller red tail cats. use sexually mature RTC that are smaller than most and just keep downsizing. after generations you most likely would have a smaller RTC although other mutations may occure. It just a hypothesis i have not sure if it would actually work or not.
