180 gallon tank, 11 inch female peacock bass, 16 inch clown knife, 14 inch florida gar, 11 inch silver arowana, 12 inch red tail catfish, male and female reticulated sting rays, and new addition 10 inch id shark. Previous problem with arowana not eating for 3 weeks as in my other thread may be related to this situation. Bass hates the new shark, absolutely hates it, gets all black and ugly and chases the hell out of it. The first hour this was the other way around, the bass was the victim, but that changed quick, I added him a week ago. Woke up last morning and saw that my clown knifes left fin was crazy crazy red and attacked, he is super peaceful, everything got along with it, and the only real way the fin could have been that ripped was the teeth of the gar. Same morning I noticed two 0.5 cm to 1 cm bites out of the id sharks tail. This morning I wake up and the sharks tail is messed up severely. The bottom portion was torn off and the top portion and a narrow section bitten off, almost like the gars nose. Daily behavior, the shark avoids the gar like the plague, and doesn't worry too much bout the bass anymore but the bass does get real black always and chases it once in a while. Bass doesn't worry about the gar, they've lived together for a while and the gar hasn't claimed 2 clown knives and tried to get the bass multiple times. Had to relocate till the bass grew. Meantime 9 inch bass ate my 7 inch tiger shovel nose. Got the gar back 3 months back, arowana doesn't really care about it or worry about it too much, once in a while. Clown knife never avoided him, but does now a tiny bit, still not huge. Male stingray is buried majority of the time now, but the gar would never do anything to it, they always hung out together, so probably otherwise related. Female stingray doesn't care, unaffected. Catfish never moves during the day, not once. During the night he's boss, steals food right out from under the gar and chases him away. He is the biggest presence and the only other one I think could be the bully. I don't know if the catfish or the peacock bass are capable of doing the damage done to the sharks tale, but the cat kinda doesn't tolerate the sharks constant pacing at night, but doesn't care during the day. As for the shark, he just patrols back and forth and takes breaks to hide usually behind the catfish. Maintain water regularly, but definitely some stress related issues going on, but I really don't wanna get rid of the gar. Gar swims around like crazy and enjoys the power head. Eats well, shrimp and tilapia, was my very first fish. Shark adds great contrast to my tank, would prefer to keep him. Bass is my favorite, second fish. Clown knife and rays are irrelevant, and my arowana is not eating so it might die anyway, but I really obviously would rather keep it. Catfish will outgrow tank soon, but he's cool so would rather him stay. Also want to put my 11 inch black ghost knife in that tank, the gar messed up its tale before. I don't know if there's anything I can do to balance the tank a bit more, but now it's looking like I could possibly lose two great fish if not more and I don't know getting rid of the gar would help that.
