Very few people actually have a tank large enough to keep a bumble bee grouper. They become massive. The one member who kept one is now banned (thecanuck), and his girlfriend doesnt log in much anymore.

And please tell me you are kidding about converting it to freshwater.

BB groupers get to about 8 feet long, theCanuck had one that was just under 2' I believe. He was in the process of moving it into its temporary new home a 12' 700gal tank, when it got sick and died, he had plans for his next tank which was around 1200gal I believe... not sure the dimentions though... amd that wasn't even going to be his final tank. Suffice to say they need huge tanks and will not be health without lots of swimming room, so basicaly unless you can afford or can find a home for a fish that will require multiple thousands of gallons of tank size you would be better off getting a grouper that can thrive in a much smaller environment. Even then most don't do well in tanks under 12' long IMO because a 1-3' fish needs alot of room.

It's 12'x2'x2', 300gal tank, and his grouper didn't get sick and died.. He left it at a LFS, and it died

Thanks for the size correction, I wasn't sure it's been a wile. Also the tank he had it in broke and he was forced to bring it to the LFS where it got sick and it died wile waiting for the new one FYI. But this is compeletly off topic so stick to the questions about the BB grouper.

BB groupers converted to fresh can be found on this website. However...they live shortened lives and were gathered as hatchings that had been born in rivers and estuaries where the salinity was lower.

I really would like to know what the canucks parents occupations are...to keep springing for tanks and projects like that is awesome...but not cheap.

You nailed it right there, his "parents"....not him. But anyway, I do agree they will not reach full size, or life expectancy in fresh. I have thought about it though......just thought about it.

Thanks for the responses. I guess they rank up there with arapaima. I saw a pbass guy who was going to mix pbass and a BBG on mfk. Sucks conuck is banned, no picts. Good news for me my 600 gallon is up and running.......waiting for bass.

his old threads have pics

and he said he paid for it all himself, he works for like a laser something corporation that like heals people or some ish

he used it on his bb grouper while it was sick too
